Why does Form Health ask if I have liver diseases like hepatitis and cirrhosis?
People with active hepatitis, cirrhosis, or after liver transplantation are generally not appropriate for our program because many weight loss medications can be harmful or are contra-indicated in people with advanced liver disease. In addition, if you have severe liver disease, we believe you might be better served by the hospital system where your liver specialists are, so that your complex care needs can be seamlessly integrated.
However, milder forms of liver disease commonly co-exist with excess weight, and many patients in our clinic with these conditions improve with weight loss. If you have a condition called Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD), also known as Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), both commonly referred to as “fatty liver”, then you are not excluded from participation, and may benefit from treatment at Form Health. If you are not sure if your liver health represents an exclusion, please call Form Health and a Care Advisor will be able to provide more information and discuss your individual case.
